Coin: A Founder’s Story Trailer Puts a Positive Spin on Crypto

It’s been a tough year for cryptocurrency enthusiasts, especially if they’ve invested heavily in the emerging market. Anyway, the new documentary Currency: the story of a founder puts a very positive spin on the future of crypto by looking at the story of Brian Armstrong, co-founder and CEO of Coinbase. In the trailer, Armstrong talks about how he first realized bitcoin’s immense potential and how he could make trading it easier for the public.

As the film’s name suggests, the documentary is essentially an origin story for Armstrong and Coinbase, the company he co-founded to help legitimize cryptocurrency. The trailer lightly touches on the staggering crypto crash that wiped out digital fortunes. Either way, the movie is so bullish on crypto that the trailer sometimes comes across as propaganda.

The trailer also touches on Armstrong’s attempts to increase the reach of crypto beyond traditionally wealthy investors, and he seems to genuinely believe this can be a positive thing for the world. As noted by the film’s production company, Alldayeveryday Productions, Armstrong also “signed the Giving Pledge, pledging to donate the majority of his wealth to charitable causes throughout his life.”

Most of the movie seems to be Armstrong telling his story in his own words. But there are a few other familiar faces sharing their thoughts with viewers, including Nas, Scott Galloway and Paul Graham.
